The Dance Floor: A Year of Dancing

August 24, 2016 | Posted By: [email protected]

With a one-year anniversary just around the corner, The Dance Floor recently joined the Greater Lexington Chamber and celebrated its membership with a ribbon cutting ceremony.

Located in the heart of Columbia’s Vista, The Dance Floor is the only dance studio in Columbia offering jazz, hip-hop, tap, and contemporary ballet specifically for adults.

“Our mission is to provide dance classes to adults in the Columbia area, regardless of age and experience,” said Lindsay Sprague, the studio’s owner and director. “Dance has always given me an escape from everyday life, and I want to share that freedom with others!”

The Dance Floor employs five people and is located at 717 Lady Street, Suite D. This central location makes it easily accessible from Lexington, Columbia and the entire Midlands.

“We pride ourselves on giving our clients a safe and comfortable environment to let go of insecurities and just dance! Our classes are purely recreational, a ‘come as you are’ environment,” Sprague said. “No recitals at the end of the year; no dress code that requires leotard and tights; no body type requirement; no weekly commitment; no pressure!”

According to Sprague, the coming weeks will be a great time to visit The Dance Floor, even if you’ve never been.

“As we approach our one-year anniversary on September 1st, we will be celebrating with lots of in-class promotions during the week of August 28,” she said. “We hope that everyone will come out and try out a class and see how much fun dancing here can be.”

Plans for the future include expanding the schedule and offering an even greater variety of classes.

“The most gratifying part of this job is getting to share my passion for dance with others. Some clients have trained in dance for many years and this gives them an outlet to continue to do what they love,” Sprague said. “Other clients are at the beginner level and it gives me so much joy to introduce them to an opportunity they may have never had as a child.”

The Dance Floor is also available for rental by the hour for various events. The studio has more than 1,500 square feet of open flooring with floor-to-ceiling windows, customizable lighting and a professional sound system. Customers can rent the space by itself and do the rest on their own or allow The Dance Floor and catering partner Blue Marlin Signature Catering to handle the food.

“We would love to make our home the perfect venue for your next party, dinner, shower or special event,” Sprague said.
