It’s almost like John Tanner was born to do this job.

“I have been doing things around the house such as building and repairs since I was about six years old,” said Tanner, who owns and operates Home Again Forge, a business specializing in home improvements and repairs.

Home Again Forge recently joined the Greater Lexington Chamber and celebrated its membership with a ribbon cutting ceremony on January 21.

Home Again Forge has been in business for 15 months. Tanner specializes as a carpenter and also does drywall repair and installation. He also installs vinyl and aluminum siding.

But what separates Home Again Forge from its competition are Tanner’s abilities as a blacksmith.

“My blacksmith work is something that I offer that similar companies do not,” said Tanner, who enjoys making things in his forge for a customer’s home, garden or whatever they need.

Tanner said he has made things such as fireplace tools and screens, a pineapple structure and five sets of handrails. He has even made something as intricate as a mailbox post in the shape of a spinal column with all of the vertebrae.

“When we moved to South Carolina, my first job was in construction. I worked for a contractor for about three years building custom homes here in South Carolina,” said Tanner, who then worked as a carpenter for a utility company. He also performed routine maintenance on all types of equipment including storage sheds during that time.

“With all of this background, it was a logical progression for me to start my own business in home repairs and blacksmithing,” said Tanner, who located his business in Lexington County, because that’s where he makes his home. “I plan on growing my company in the future to where I might even be able to hire additional employees.”

Tanner doesn’t currently have a website, but he is working on one. His business can be found on Porch.com under handyman in Swansea, SC.

“The most gratifying thing about my work is that I enjoy it, and I get to help other people,” Tanner said. “I am trustworthy and will do the best job possible.”
