Lexington Chamber application is open for the $5,000 Doris Burkett Scholarship (One Scholarship will be offered in 2022)
About Doris Burkett
The late Doris Burkett served as the Executive Director of the Lexington Chamber of Commerce from 1982 to 1994 and was a graduate of Gilbert High School. A scholarship fund was established in her memory by her family and has been administered by the Lexington Chamber & Visitors Center since 1995.
Doris Burkett Scholarship Objective
The objective of Doris Burkett Scholarship is to provide financial assistance to a student, who may have been overlooked by other scholarship providers, in reaching their educational goals. The recipient should be a student with a weighted grade point average of 3.5 or less who demonstrates a strong work ethic and the potential to succeed.
Doris Burkett Scholarship Criteria
According to the organization’s bylaws, the primary qualification for the scholarship recipient shall be need, moral integrity, and the potential to become a productive citizen.
Students shall be evaluated on the following criteria:
- Strives to be academically successful and possesses a weighted grade point average of 3.5 or less
- Has a need for financial assistance
- Shows ambition to achieve excellence
- Participates in extracurricular activities
- Involvement in community (i.e., church, volunteering, etc.)
- Possesses an interest and ability to “give back” to the Lexington community
All applications must be received at the Chamber no later than Friday, March 11, 2022. You can either complete and return the scholarship application package to your Career Specialist (by March 8, 2022) or deliver your package to the Chamber office at 311 W. Main Street, Lexington, SC 29072.
