The Greater Lexington Chamber and Visitors Center honored two prominent members of the community on Tuesday morning, as Michael Tucker and Scott Wilhide received the Chamber’s annual awards at the June breakfast.

Michael Tucker of Chick-Fil-A received the H. Odelle Harman REACH Award. Named for an influential Lexington District One school superintendent, the Recognizing Educational and Community Humanitarian Award honors someone who has made contributions to the Chamber, the local educational system, and the community.

Tucker has been a faithful supporter of Lexington School District One since 1997. He has continually donated his time and resources to schools and organizations within the Lexington One community.

“Thank you for all of your support. We are truly a community business. We’re so pleased to be a part of Lexington,” Tucker said. “We’re thrilled to be an integral part of the community. Thank you for this wonderful surprise.”

Wilhide also got a surprise when he was honored with the Chairman’s Award, which is given to someone who helps the community succeed.

Wilhide, who is well known for being the keeper of the golf carts at the Chamber’s annual golf tournaments, is always willing to help out and get things done.

“He’s been a fixture around the Chamber for a while,” said Nancy Hutto, who is finishing up her time as the Board Chair.

“Nancy’s leadership style is so calm, reassuring, and genuine,” he said. “She’s been selfless to our Chamber. She’s wonderful to work with.”

It was apparent that Hutto was equally impressed with everyone she worked with at the Chamber.

“It has been a great experience, and it has made me grow as a person. I feel like Lexington has the best Chamber around, and I feel like our staff is the best staff any Chamber could have,” said Hutto, who also mentioned the influence of Harry Deith, a former boss.

“Harry played a big part in me being here today. He believed in me, and he saw potential in me, and he was the person that enhanced my career,” Hutto said. “Also Southern First Bank has allowed me to be a part of the Chamber. I want to thank them for allowing me the time, because it does take a lot of time to be part of the Chamber.”

The Chamber’s Ambassadors were also recognized at the breakfast for giving up much of their time in order to support the numerous Chamber events and make them successful.

“They take time away from their productivity so we can keep Chamber events running smoothly,” said Ambassador Chair Shelley Metropol of Experienced Real Estate. “Thanks to our ambassadors.”
