A Midlands’ mainstay in the seafood business for the past 30 years has finally come to Lexington.

Captain D’s opened its doors at 415 Columbia Avenue in Lexington for the first time on February 1 and also celebrated its Greater Lexington Chamber membership with a ribbon cutting ceremony.

The restaurant is owned by CD’s Midlands, Inc. D/B/A Captain D’s, which has been in business since 1986, according to President/Owner Steve Cochran. He is joined in management by COB/Owner Glenn Woodrum, Owners John Woodrum and Linda Haynes, Director of Operations, Barrett Skarl and General Manager, Jim Wiechering.

The company is made up of approximately 230 employees throughout eight locations. The Lexington restaurant will employ 55-plus people.

Cochran believes a growing market like Lexington is a place where Captain D’s needs to have a presence, saying “I also live in Lexington County, and it has always been a dream of mine to build a Captain D’s in the county where my family and I live.”

Cochran, who also plans to build two additional locations in the next two to three years, said Captain D’s is known for its fried and grilled seafood and chicken. The restaurant also offers limited table service, but the most well-known attribute is having “the highest quality freshly cooked seafood at an affordable price.”

According to Cochran, the most gratifying aspect of the job is “pleasing guests of our business and achieving the rewards of compliments about our establishment.”

Cochran wants to let other Chamber members know that Captain D’s is “locally owned and operated,” and the employees are “passionate about our business.”
