IN THE PAST...
Wise Words - “You can’t help until you listen”
After about 30 years in sales and management, Don Taylor believes he’s learned a few things about conducting business. One deceptively simple slogan—“People do not care how much you know until they know how much you care”—has stuck with him ever since a good friend shared those words many years ago.
“You have to care about your customer’s business and honestly see if there is something you can do to help them be successful,” says Don, who owns the Lexington franchise of Town Planner. A popular community calendar, Town Planner includes ads and coupons for local businesses as well as marked dates for the Lexington community and school events. When making sales calls, Don tries to help the business owners decide whether to buy coupons or place ads.

IN THE PRESENT...
It’s bigger, it’s better, and it’s here
Tonight’s the night. One of the Chamber’s biggest events of the year, the “down by the river” Oyster Roast and Auction promises to surpass 2011’s party in every way. The menu is bigger. The auction list is longer. And more guests and sponsors want to participate in what’s become one of Lexington’s most anticipated social events.
It all happens at the Saluda River Club’s sumptuously rustic Chickawa Outdoor Center. The doors open at 6 p.m., with food, libations, and live music in full gear until 10 p.m. The silent auction, with more than 150 items, is 6-8 p.m. Auction checkout begins at 9 p.m. To get a look at what’s for auction, click here.
“We’re excited about this event,” said Randy Halfacre, the Chamber’s president/CEO. “It’s a great way for our members and the community to have a good time, make friends, and build potential business relationships.” |
| Focus on the Future Update |
Pledges are coming in for the Chamber’s new office and Visitors Center on Main Street. Mike Crapps, President/CEO of First Community Bank, is chairing the Focus on the Future committee, members of which are asking for pledges. Approximately half of the $1 million goal has been met. To make your pledge, contact Mike at 951-0500 or Chamber President/CEO Randy Halfacre at 359-6113.
