The Coolest Addition To Lexington: Apex Athletic Performance
Apex Athletic Performance has been in business for almost three years with medical supervision provided by the physicians at Palmetto Health-USC Orthopedic
Center.
Recently, Palmetto Health opened a brand new 31,000 square-foot building in Lexington. Located adjacent to Palmetto Health-USC Orthopedic Center, the two-story
facility offers orthopedic physical and occupational therapy, wellness programs including MedFit12, nutrition services and sports performance testing
and training.
In addition, this new center offers:
The only sports science lab in South Carolina with the ability to test for anaerobic capacity (VO2.max) and evaluate most sport related movements including
the ability to analyze an athlete’s golf swing, pitching, batting and other sport-specific movements.
A Hydroworx® treadmill pool, which is the largest available in South Carolina for public use.
The only 3D motion analysis center in the state available to the public
Wendell Holmes Jr., MD, Physician leader for orthopedic rehabilitation services at Palmetto Health-USC Orthopedic Center,shared that future plans include
adding services to better treat patients and adding additional locations to increase access to those services. “We also plan to expand our focus to
clinical research. We are working collaboratively with our physicians, research team and higher education institutes to establish new procedures, interventions
and protocols,” added Dr. Holmes. “New treatments are developed and researched by our team and shared with other medical professional via medical journal
publications. This facility, and particularly the motion analysis lab, will expand our capabilities in the research arena and help us provide the best,
evidence-based treatment to our patients.”
Between Apex Athletic Performance and Palmetto Health Orthopedic Rehabilitation, there are 105 employees that include physical therapists, occupational
therapists, sports performance personnel, athletic trainers and support staff. Each employee is focused on providing the highest level of care for
their patients. “Seeing the people we serve improve is the most gratifying part of our work,” shared Dr. Holmes. “The results of the services we offer
are most gratifying. At Apex Athletic Performance, we focus on athletes and we love seeing our athletes reach the next level of performance.”
