Livability, one of the leading online resources used for researching communities and discovering the best places to live in America, praised Lexington
and other South Carolina cities for it’s involvement with the Palmetto Heroes program that assists teachers in buying homes and encourages them “to
put down long-term roots.”

According to the SC Housing Finance and Development Authority, qualified applicants will have the opportunity to purchase a home with a four percent, 30
year fixed mortgage interest rate and receive up to $6,000 down payment assistance.

Those eligible for the 2018 initiative include:

  • Law Enforcement Officers
  • Firefighters, EMTs and Paramedics
  • Correctional Officers
  • Teachers
  • Nurses and Certified Nursing Aides
  • SC National Guard
  • Veterans
