Annual Carolina Q Cup

This is the 4th
Annual Carolina Q Cup, but the first in Lexington, South
Carolina! On October 26-27, 2007, the Greater Lexington
Chamber of Commerce and the South Carolina Barbeque Association
are partnering to bring
the biggest BBQ event in South
Carolina
at Hendrix Farms
2205 Augusta Highway
Lexington,
SC.
South Carolina is
unique in its BBQ heritage. Since it is the only
state to boast four types of barbeque sauces (vinegar
and pepper, mustard, light tomato and heavy tomato), the winning
team in the Carolina Q Cup can truly be acknowledged as the
world’s best!
The Carolina Q Cup
will feature two competitive categories – whole
hog and Boston Butts. Each team will prepare a whole hog of
approximately 100 –130 pounds dressed weight and ten
(10) Boston Butts. The criteria for judging will be based on
appearance, aroma, texture-tenderness, taste and overall impression.
Certified South Carolina Barbeque Association Judges will conduct
the judging.
In addition to the “professional” event, there
will be separate cook-off competition for teams representing
local first responders and the men and women in our armed forces.
There will also be another special BBQ chicken contest to benefit
Children’s Chance.
Over $16,450
will be awarded in all events. The Grand Champion
in the Carolina Q Cup will receive the coveted silver Carolina
Q Cup and an additional cash award.
An application and information on the registration fee for
teams can be obtained from the Greater Lexington Chamber of
Commerce at PO Box 44, Lexington, SC, 29071 or on the web site
at www.carolinaqcup.com. Applications will be accepted on a
first-come, first-serve basis.
In addition to the world barbeque championship, the Carolina
Q Cup will feature live music, great festival foods and amusements
for children of all ages.
